Silverstein Estro Ligature

The Silverstein Works Estro Ligature is a beautiful piece of art that is as functional as it is good-looking. Sitting kind of in the middle range of many other great ligatures, the Estro ligature does what a lot of other Silverstein ligatures do well: They create an environment where you can experiment with your sound and tone a little bit to fine tune the type of contact you'd like between your mouthpiece, reed, and the ligature.

Versatile in many ways, the Estro is a great tool to have in your tone arsenal.

Tone-Versatile, but still Clarified

Silverstein kind of magically appeared on the market some years ago with a lot of marketing power and some cool looking ligatures, but it wasn't until after trying one at a trade show that I realized that the ligature had some serious potential in the industry.

Made from some heavily-researched and newly-developed materials, Silverstein approaches the saxophone industry a little differently. They're not recreating the same product a slightly different way. They're constantly developing products with the mindset that they want to solve problems that we didn't know that we had. The Estro shows this philosophy entirely.

Things that make the Estro different:

  • Harmonic Enhancers. Add, take away, or balance overtone harmonics in your sound by moving these around.
  • A new design of their space-age material cord. Less contact and pressure for a more rich-sounding tone.
  • Resizable. So you can worry less that this might not fit a future mouthpiece. In my possession, I do have two different ones: One that sizes better on my HR mouthpieces, and one that sizes better on my metal mouthpieces.
  • Sound Adjustment Nut: Further tone control.
  • Want my thoughts?

This is a great ligature that will offer you a lot of options regarding tone. Let's also not forget that it's built very sturdy and I'm sure it will last for an incredibly long time. I also love all of the attention to detail in the cosmetics of the ligature- it shows me that the people at Silverstein care so much about the presentation of their product. If you look on the Silverstein website, you'll even see that this ligature has crystals in it, and some ligatures come with diamonds in them.

In my setup, the only thing I found that I wasn't a big fan of was that I saw a loss of some high harmonics (in every position) that are really important to ::my:: sound. But that's my sound, and your sound will probably be a lot different than my sound. I think it would absolutely be worth a try for anyone to test this ligature to see how it works for them.
