BG Flex Ligatures

Accessories

Don't let the inexpensive price fool you. The BG Flex Ligature stands as one of BG's strongest products and provides a lot of the same results you know and love from other BG products into a package that's much more affordable for saxophone players.

Legendary BG Quality at a fraction of a price of their other ligatures.

If you're looking to buy one for yourself, you can get one right here

With BG products, you'll always get your money's worth out of the life of the product. The manufacturer does a great job of standing behind it, too.

Round Sound, Stable Intonation

Are you a newer saxophone player who is looking for more stability when you play? Are you a classical player looking for a bit of a darker tone? Are you simply wanting to upgrade your ligature from your stock mouthpiece, while not spending too much money? This is probably the ligature you've been looking for.

In many ways, this is a pretty no-frills ligature. However, it serves a great purpose and sounds pretty good in the process. This is a ligature that has a lot of contact with the mouthpiece and reed, so I wouldn't expect the most transparent tone that you typically get out of other BG ligatures. In many ways, this ligature should darken up your sound.

As with all BG ligatures, you'll definitely feel the difference in stability. In my own tests, I found some real difference in how my overtones slotted in comparison to stock ligatures on the market, and it was definitely a step forward.

Also, you'll be gaining a lot of durability with this ligature. It would take a lot of abuse to actually damage this ligature. Because it has Synthetic Fabric on it (that feels in some way both rubbery and plastic....and leathery), it's not going to be something that cracks or splits. I dare say because of the excellent build quality that this could be a part of your saxophone article for a lot of years to come. Usually when you buy BG products, that's the case. They're made so well!

Want my thoughts?

I've been into BG products for a few decades now, and there's a reason: Have you ever heard anyone complain about the quality of BG products? I've never once heard someone tell me, "It wasn't made well" or "my sound suffered". Every result I've been privy to has been positive, including my own. This ligature is no different.

The Flex ligature was not one that I had really explored, considering I have been so glued to my Duo ligatures for years. I think the ideal end-user of the Flex ligature would be a few different people:

  • Classical Saxophonists. It seems to fit well with the tonal wants and needs there.
  • High School Band students who are looking for a decently-priced upgrade into a better piece of gear (than their old ligature).
  • Those looking for inexpensive, durable pieces of gear for gigs. Sometimes that type of gear goes a long way.
  • I certainly don't want to count anyone out there, but this is where I think these products will make the greatest impact.

Am I using it? Not regularly, but I see where it would fit into my setup pretty well. I typically don't use gear that makes my sound darker, since I like a fairly transparent ligature sound. However, this might be interesting to test out a bit more for both alto and soprano, where I like my darker sounds on occasion.

    Why BG?

BG has been making ligatures and woodwind accessories since 1985, and every product that comes out of BG is made by hand and inspected with some of the absolute best quality assurance I've seen in the saxophone world.

With a company logo that says, "When Details Make The Difference", you can see the level of craftsmanship that goes into each and every piece. It goes on to say further, "We only sell products that our employees would buy." There's no doubt that when you look at each product, you can see exactly what they're talking about, down to the packaging. Buying a BG product is buying a product that will last with you for a long time, and will sound as good as it looks.
